administrator of the .nl domain
In its over 25 years of existence, SIDN has built a solid reputation as the administrator of one of the safest domains in the world: the .nl domain. SIDN keeps the internet accessible for everyone and also makes an impact in the field of cybersecurity and online identity.
For over ten years, us. has been SIDN's trusted technology partner. In 2013 we developed the new SIDN website, and in 2018 we expanded it with the most frequently used feature of the site: the .nl domain name suggestion tool. In 2020 the site received a complete update, in line with the new proposition 'Carefree online'.
a repositioning, translated into structure, design and technology
'SIDN not only manages the .nl domain, but also offers solutions for cybersecurity and online identity.' We translated that message – in structure, design and technology – into the renewed online platform. It became an intensive and enjoyable collaboration.
Earlier, we had already made the transition from DotCMS to the new cms Contentful together with SIDN. The development of the new platform was therefore the moment to put our vision of flexible content management into practice with Contentful.
three releases of the .nl domain name suggestion tool
In 2018 we developed the .nl domain name suggestion tool: the starting point of SIDN's sales funnel. If a domain name is already taken, the tool shows available alternatives in real time, collected from various algorithms and data sources – dictionaries (NL and EN), synonyms, name lists, brand names and company names. During development we took into account the input of a large group of registrars and SIDN's high security requirements. The tool was a success from day one.
In early 2021 we made the suggestion tool available to SIDN's many sales partners via an api. For registrars, the tool on sidn.nl was already a valuable lead generator; now that they can make it part of their own registration flow via the api, it brings them – and thus SIDN – many more additional .nl registrations.
At the end of 2021 we boosted the overall user interface and improved conversion towards registrars. With 'whois direct' we also created a direct entry point for professionals, allowing this group to reach the information relevant to them more quickly.

Since 2013, SIDN and us. have been working together continuously on the digital products around sidn.nl. Nicole Wedler, communications specialist at SIDN, introduced us. to her new employer back then.
